About Jo

As far back as I can remember I’ve always held questions about why we are the way we are.Why do so many of us habitually make choices that seem to bring us pain & suffering? And what is the path towards a meaningful, engaged and fulfilled life?I have always held a deep love of life but alongside that came with its opposite, experiencing periods of anxiety, depression and insomnia. This was ultimately the driving force behind my quest for healing and wholeness.Throughout my life I’ve tried pretty much everything that’s available. if there’s a healing practice you’ve heard of there’s a pretty good chance that I’ve tried it! While I’ve always kept up a mindfulness and meditation practice, I spent so much time chasing healing modalities that were external. Meditation seemed too basic and too simple to offer anything long-lasting.What’s been fascinating is that after so much time chasing external treatments and modalities, I came back to where I first started - sitting still, getting quiet and bringing my attention to the breath & body. This decision to commit more deeply to the path of mediation has been transformative as a foundational practice. It turns out, the key to it all was self-awareness, and the way to that is through the path of mindfulness and meditation.I hold a 25 year meditation practice, having completed teaching courses from MBSR, TM, Vipassana, 300 hour yoga training, and more recently having completed the Mindfulness Mediation Certification Program with Tara Brach & Jack Kornfield through Berkley University in CA.I currently teach beginners courses and group meditation practises on the Mornington Peninsula. What I offer are down to earth and practical ways to bring mindfulness into you daily life. You might be looking to reduce stress and anxiety, need a supportive practice to improve emotional health, have a desire to increase self awareness or looking for better mental focus.A lot of people I have spoken to have been put off by meditation because they think it’s too hard, too serious, too strict or too spiritual. My aim is to create a space where everyone is welcome and hold a space that feels warm, down to earth and practical.A place that can support connection and all parts of the human experience (including humour!) are welcome.
